Bill Geier's work for Oil States/Skagit under
Tom Doan involved design, and drawing
checking for form,fit & function. The project
involved the design of deck machinery such
as pipe rackers and blowout preventer
transporters, each weighing 800 tons. This
equipment was on board two Global Marine
drillships operating in 12,000 feet of water.
Drillships contain a hole ('moonpool')
extending right through the ship down
through the hull, which allows the pipe
delivered from the pipe rackers to be
attached to the drillstring that extends
through the ship into the water. The huge
blow-out preventer is delivered to the
moonpool via a huge 'robot' on tracks.
